Donald vs. Rosie

I have to admit it, I’m totally siding with the Donald on the Rosie/Trump feud. Back in the day, Spy Magazine always referred to him as a “short-fingered vulgarian”. But for some reason, he’s totally won me over with rants like these.

Total pwnage.

Stereotype of the Year

As you may have heard, Time Magazine has announced its Person of the Year, and congrats are due, because this year, it’s YOU, “for seizing the reins of the global media, for founding and framing the new digital democracy, for working for nothing and beating the pros at their own game.”
Whatever.
Congrats are also due to [...]

Great Success!

Via Dlisted, I just found out that the drunken frat boys who were attempting to sue the producers of Borat for depicting them as…well, as themselves.
Two college, frat boys have lost at an attempt to get their scene removed from the film “Borat.” In the movie the boys are depicted as booze guzzling idiots [...]

The Art of Retouching

The whole Dove Revolution campaign did a great job of showing the world how much art goes into making real people look like billboard models. And it’s hardly a surprise.
I just came across the site of a prominent retouching specialist, Glenn Feron. It lets you see before and after photos in the same environment, and [...]

More Billshit

At this point, there’s really only one reason to tune in to Shill O’Reilly. It’s the same reason you don’t keep walking when two jerks are fighting outside a bar. The impulse to keep watching is the impulse of a true rubbernecker.
I’ll say this, though: he really is a top-drawer entertainer. You really believe that [...]

Saving Mel Gibson

For two reasons, Mad Mel’s favourite movie this year will undoubtedly be Rocky Balboa.

Why? First, because the critical feeding frenzy that Stallone’s flick is already generating will make Apocalypto’s tepid reviews seem triumphant by comparison. Second, because it’s bound to feature extreme slo-mo scenes featuring appalling agony and spurting blood-geysers. And Mel loves that kind [...]

V-Scratch

Pretty nice audio/visual installation (aka DJ mix with cool lights) done by a fellow from Lausanne.

V-Scratch is a software/hardware environment which allows for unique visual interpretations in turntable composition. It transposes nuances made by the rotation of the record: the variations of speed, audio spectrum and volume. In addition, the physical act of spinning the [...]

Copywrong

A great piece by Victor Keegan in the Guardian calling for a new model for copyright law, on the occasion of the impending expiration of the 50-year copyright of some music tracks in England. There’s a wealth of quotable quotes in the piece, but for my money, this one is the quotablest:
The creative economy [...]

Borat 1.0

Interesting footage of Sacha Baron-Cohen prototyping an early version of Borat. Originally, he was Albanian, and his name was Christo. And he wasn’t nearly as funny. Still, I ate this shit up, because I’m always interested in seeing how something marginally interesting can actually become funny.
It’s a bit like Jon Lovitz’s career in reverse.
