This is slow to get going, but so worth it. By the end, it reminds me of that scene in The Untouchables when Connery and, er, that other old guy in The Untouchables kick the Christ out of each other in the alleyway.

Great piece on the disturbing subject matter of Sesame Street in its early days. Here’s a representative sample:
Snuffleupagus is visible only to Big Bird; since 1985, all the characters can see him, as Big Bird’s old protestations that he was not hallucinating came to seem a little creepy, not to mention somewhat strained. As for [...]

Here’s great footage from Vision On, a kid’s show you’ll only remember if you’re getting a little long in the tooth.
They tell kids to say no to drugs, then they put shows like this on the air.
Thanks, Yumi!

This installment features not a mouldy old music video, but rather, some of the strangest and most misguided commercials ever to worm their way onto WIVB, better known, way back in the day, as Buffalo 29.
That’s right, I’m talking about the twisted oeuvre of Tom Carvel.

American Republicans would have us believe that if only life today were more like what we used to see on wholesome 50’s television programs, the world would be a better place. I don’t recall seeing any 50’s television shows in which pastors bought crystal meth from male hookers, or congressmen solicited male pages for sex. [...]

It’s easy to think the way everyone else does. But if you do that, you’re probably either a loser or a jerk. And probably both.
In an interview with Reason Magazine, the guys from South Park show us why they’re not losers or jerks. (Link via Boing Boing)
Reason: When it looked like Comedy Central wasn’t going [...]
