I couldn’t help but wonder: are they freaking serious? A newspaper journalist bitching about writers getting free stuff in exchange for ink? [...]

While so-called “molecular gastronomy” has led to all kinds of ridiculous nonsense — especially at the hand of talent-challenged culinary posers like the Rubino Brothers (the picture says it all) — it’s undoubtedly an interesting field that’s taught us more about food than we ever thought we needed to know.

Guest posting on Michael Ruhlmann’s blog, Anthony Bourdain has a laugh-out-loud funny round up of that irritating slate of media whores with no discernible talent best known as the chefs of the Food Network. Here’s some of what the man has to say about the demoniacally perky Rachael Ray:
Wallowing in your own crapulence on your [...]

Great piece from eGullet on a topic near and dear to my heart: the art of picking music for the kitchen.
I’m happiest in my kitchen, but only if there’s a good musical selection. That seems to be a common thread for just about everyone who likes cooking and/or makes a living at it.
In a professional [...]

Went to Czehoski on Queen Street last night. Great meal — I started with an heirloom tomato salad that kicked ass, then went for a lamb schnitzel. Really great. All the way through, I’m eating the roast veg that came alongside and finding these little bits in there. For a while, I think they’re tofu. [...]

As a cooking nut, I found this list of Kitchen Myths interesting and useful. You might like it, too. The design? Not so much.
As an aside, I found it using a cool little Firefox plugin called StumbleUpon. Just add it to your toolbar, tell it what sort of stuff you’re interested in seeing, and click [...]

New Yorker editor Bill Buford has been on my must-read list for weeks, ever since a friend recommended Among the Thugs, which recounts his adventures with the soccer hooligans of England. But another of Buford’s books, Heat, has jumped the queue. It’s the story of his time among another group of alcoholic, lusty, passionate, volatile [...]
