Free the Music
So we can all stop speculating about Steve Jobs’s post calling for the end of DRM a month or so ago. He was just laying the PR groundwork for this.
The exec summary? EMI will offer DRM-free versions of their offering at the premium price of $1.29. The DRM versions will still sell at $.99.
Kudos to EMI to be the first major label to abandon the DRM. And kudos to Apple for helping to make it happen. The reality is that iTunes is still only the biggest, rather than the best, online music retailer out there.
But it just got a little better.
