Bear with me

Updated the Wordpress software, and thought it might be a fun time to create myself a custom look for the site (based on the almighty Tarski — link at the bottom of the page for those of you who care).
Problem being, I don’t know CSS worth a damn, I’m impatient to a fault, and let’s [...]

Steel Wheelchairs Still Rolling

The BBC reports today that Rolling Stones’ latest tour has tipped $437 million, making it the largest-grossing tour in music history. Emphasis on gross.
I don’t know why anyone would bother. I don’t know why they themselves would bother. They’re old. They have no new material. Most important, they’re all millionaires many times over.So why do [...]

More on copyright

Another thought-provoking article on the copyright question, this time in reference to Second Life, the increasingly ubiquitous online experience from California’s Linden Labs.
Now I’ve only poked around in Second Life for an hour or so and frankly can’t see the appeal. I’ve got too much to do in my first life, and if I’m entering [...]

Copywrong

A great piece by Victor Keegan in the Guardian calling for a new model for copyright law, on the occasion of the impending expiration of the 50-year copyright of some music tracks in England. There’s a wealth of quotable quotes in the piece, but for my money, this one is the quotablest:

Borat 1.0

Interesting footage of Sacha Baron-Cohen prototyping an early version of Borat. Originally, he was Albanian, and his name was Christo. And he wasn’t nearly as funny. Still, I ate this shit up, because I’m always interested in seeing how something marginally interesting can actually become funny.
It’s a bit like Jon Lovitz’s career in reverse.

Bloggerton’s Vault of Atrocities

Here’s a blast from the past — and one I’ve been trying to repress. That’s right, it’s the video for No Tengo Dinero by Righera.
The fashion sense of Roxy Music. The sauve latin flair of Julio Iglesias. The longevity of Dexy’s Midnight Runners.
These guys had it all.

O’Reilly’s latest Billshit

From ThinkProgress, the latest idiotic bloviations from Bill O’Reilly, whose business card should read “Worthless Lying Fuckhat”.
Here’s what he says to the mouthbreathers who listen to his radio show:
I don’t own an iPod. I would never wear an iPod… If this is your primary focus in life - the machines… it’s going to have a [...]
