V-Scratch

Pretty nice audio/visual installation (aka DJ mix with cool lights) done by a fellow from Lausanne.

V-Scratch is a software/hardware environment which allows for unique visual interpretations in turntable composition. It transposes nuances made by the rotation of the record: the variations of speed, audio spectrum and volume. In addition, the physical act of spinning the [...]

NIMBY Liberals

By most accounts, Howard Dean gave a pretty decent speech at the Liberal Leadership Convention last night. That didn’t, however, erase a nagging non-issue that seemed to have certain people, including Ken Dryden, in a snit.
For all Dean’s fund-raising bona fides, there was still considerable grumbling among Liberals about the appearance of an American [...]

Carrying added taggage

Just so ya know, I’ve added a tag page so you can dig around both by category and custom tags.
I haven’t retroactively tagged all my old posts, and I haven’t really grown used to custom-tagging posts in general. But what the hell, it’s not hurting anyone, so I thought I’d give it a whirl. It [...]

Reality Check

Whether we’re talking about the 360, PS3 or Wii, it might be worth remembering that while each console has its merits, each one will, one day in the not-too-distant future, end up looking like this. And I’m not even saying that’s a bad thing. I’m just saying…

The alligator had the man in his jaws when deputies arrived at Lake Parker in Lakeland about 4 a.m. today. They were [...]

Oldplay

If there was a Billboard Chart for saccharine crybaby dirges, Coldplay’s “Fix You” would be number one with a bullet and stay at the top longer than “Dark Side of the Moon”. It’s just unbearable.
So imagine my surprise when a co-worker passed me this cover version and I loved it.

Bloggerton’s Vault of Atrocities

This clip is shot at a state fair somewhere. Throughout, an irritating videographer asks everyone how much they love Loverboy. It’s a bit like Heavy Metal Parking Lot, except that it’s totally shit.
Almost incidental is the plodding live performance of “Turn Me Loose” in the deep background.

Release the bees!

Here’s an odd piece of news:
Scientists at a U.S. military research facility have developed a method of training honeybees to sniff out explosives, an advancement they say will protect troops and citizens at home and abroad. Researchers at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico said on Monday they have trained the bees to [...]

Like, A Bridge Too Farfunkel

Hot on the heels of the hotly anticipated new album from Yusuf Islam, who will bill himself as “the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens” (or some variation thereof) comes an equally irrelevant project. Yes, kids, get ready for an album of standards from Art Garfunkel:
Some Enchanted Evening features Garfunkel’s covers of show tune classics [...]

Go Viral!

This is quite nice — a Trebas-like commercial about how do build a better viral mousetrap.
